There are a lot of negative articles on Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition. Unfortunately most of these articles are very shallow and have almost no understanding of Elon Musk or Twitter. They don’t understand how Musk thinks and works through problems.

However if we look at how he runs his other companies and what he has said in interviews, I think we can get a good idea of where Musk might ultimately take Twitter.

First Musk has stated in many interviews that Tesla’s job is to build the Machine (Factory) that builds the machine (Cars). So let’s apply this to Twitter. Twitter has over 7000 employees and is very management heavy. He needs to aggressively cut employees for two reasons. One is to control expenses, the second is trying to figure out the 1000 best people who exist in Twitter to deliver its full potential. So he starts by making a demand to implement a couple of features in a week or so. This will tell him three things: who has the work ethic, the skills and the passion to make Twitter better. People who are just there for the paycheck will find jobs in other companies. Once this process is complete, Musk will have a competent team that can execute on finding a way to build a better Twitter. He will have his machine (Twitter team) to build the machine (Twitter). Unfortunately he has to do this, since he didn’t get to build his team from scratch like in his previous companies.
